An
Introduction To Salisbury - A Magnificent, Historic Town Steeped In
History
& Magic...
Salisbury is set in the
rural and
ancient county of Wiltshire. Wiltshire has a very rustic, old-world
charm to it
as exemplified by the lovely city of Salisbury and the ancient Stonehenge
nearby.
There are some lovely
and typically
quaint English towns here, and besides the obvious attraction of Salisbury
there’s also Castle Combe and Bradford-on-Avon to see nearby.
Both are within
easy reach of Salisbury. As such, Salisbury is a wonderful place to
take a
holiday, and even base yourself to explore other parts of South
England. Day
trips are possible to London, Bournemouth, Brighton and other southern
hotspots.
More specifically,
within Salisbury
itself, there’s a lot to see and experience. The town has a
lovely feel to it,
and one of the main features is it’s splendid Cathedral, moments
away from the
main town centre. The town centre itself is a splendid example of a
market
square – indeed market stalls are still displayed here at various
times during
the week, and the borders of the square are lined with cheery cafes,
pubs and
restaurants.
Salisbury
train station is a mere ten
minute walk from the town centre (market square), and the bus station
is even
closer. There’s also a parking area within Market Square but it
gets packed
during busy periods.
