Salisbury
- Off The Beaten Path
With so numerous charming
attractions, it’s easy to forget many of the side attractions
that Salisbury has to provide the holiday-maker. Starting, a walk
around the town is one of the most pleasant experiences you can relish
as a traveler. There are numerous lovely shops, restaurants,
coffeehouses and pubs in the network of streets in and around Market
Square. In fact, markets were accommodated here two times each week as
long ago as the early twelfth century. Even today, Markets are held
every Tuesday and Saturday and there are several lovely stalls to
discover if you’re in town when they’re on.
If
you’re fond of the arts, get over to Salisbury Arts Centre,
where you can see various musical shows. Theatre fans may also relish
the performances at City Hall and Salisbury Playhouse.
Towards the
environs of Salisbury are the scenic Elizabeth Gardens, right by the
Avon River. Aside from having a playhouse, the gardens offer up unique
scenes of the Cathedral. The gardens also have a lot of natural
wildlife such as ducks, geese and other wild birds (you can even
recognise the periodic fox trotting by). The sculpted gardens are
rather beautiful.
Salisbury
Raceway is one of the oldest racecourses in England, and there are
enjoyable views of the Wiltshire countryside from these grounds
– you can even recognise the Cathedral in the distance.
Finally, for
flying enthusiasts, the Old Sarum Flying Club is an fascinating place
to see. You can recognise aeroplanes take off and land, and even sign
up for some flying lessons if you’re feeling adventurous.
